My music career started at age 6 when I was in grade 1 at Oakleigh State School in Brisbane. I began learning the fife and was one of the only Grade 1's allowed to play in the Fife Band.
My parents transferred me to Ithaca Creek State School in Grade 5 and it was there I began playing flute and participating in the Instrumental Music Program. I went to Kelvin Grove State High School and added Saxophone to my now growing list of instruments which also included voice, guitar and piano. I participated in Jazz Band, Concert Band, Orchestra and other ensembles during my high school years. I began teaching Flute privately in 1986 in Alderley. When my personal circumstances changed I moved back to my parents' house at Ashgrove and continued to teach Flute there. I was also engaged as flute specialist at St Paul's Anglican College for several years. I also taught in the Kenmore and Centenary districts for several years as a flute specialist. I was in a position to then enter teriary study and qualificed with a Bachelor of Music Education in 1998 majoring in both Instrumental Music and Classroom Music. My Private teaching continued as I moved to Forest Lake and established a teaching studio there. My students were well regarded by examiners and gained excellent results. I was now specialising as a WOODWIND SPECIALIST teaching flute, clarinet and saxophone. Students frequently also participated in Eisteddfods. I commenced contract work with Education Queensland from late 1998 until the present working as a MULTI Instrumental Music Teacher and in 1999 commenced employment with Academy Teaching as several schools throughout Ipswich and Boonah, also as a 'MULTI' and continued in this role at St Joseph's for several more years as an Indepent Operator until December 2012. I am now once again returning to my first love of PRIVATE TEACHING and looking to re-establish my Teaching Studio. I believe I am one of the most experienced and professional music teachers in the Lockyer Valley providing quality music tuition. |
